LED HDTVs – Samsung LN55A950 vs Sony KDL-55XBR8

LED-backlit HDTVs are becoming more and more popular. After all, they not only save energy and prolong shelf life. They also contribute to the picture quality of LCD televisions. The Samsung LN55A950 and the Sony KDL-55XBR8 are two excellent examples. In fact, they are similar in many ways which is why it takes a closer look at both models to determine which one you should buy.

    Design
In spite of their many similarities, the Samsung LN55A950 and the Sony KDL-55XBR8 have very different designs. In fact, the only thing they have in common here is that they both come with stands, which unfortunately, don’t swivel. Their designs are not too impressive, though. In the case of the KDL-55XBR8, many are sure to mind the protruding side-mounted black speakers, even though they do appear stylishly suspended because of their transparent panels and have alternate color grilles, while the Samsung LN55A950 fails to make a statement with its plain black bezel with a subtle touch of dark gray.

    Picture Quality
The picture quality of both models more than make up for what they lack in design, though, which is what makes them both outstanding LCD HD televisions. Both particularly deliver blacks that are extremely deep for an LCD television because of the local dimming function afforded by their LED backlighting. To understand this better, keep in mind that LEDs are arranged in color clusters which can be dimmed or turned off per individually. On the other hand, most LCD TVs use a fluorescent light, so a portion of it has to be dimmed to create black levels which are dark gray at best. The black levels offered by the Sony Bravia are especially impressive, coming close to that of the Kuros.

    Video Processing
Another strong point of both models is that they offer solid video processing and superb dejudder capabilities, which combined with their 120Hz refresh rate, result in images that remain smooth and clear even during very fast motion sequences, like car chases or sports races. These processing modes are called Auto Motion Plus for Samsung and Motion Enhancer for Sony, which have three settings each.

    Interactive Functions
Nowadays, televisions are not just used for watching broadcast shows or movies, but also for accessing the internet. This is particularly true for the LN55A950, which has a bunch of pre-loaded content and an InfoLink feature that allows you to access the latest information such as news and weather reports on your screen, and the KDL-55XBR8, which is compatible with the Bravia Internet Video Link, a video streaming device which lets you watch online videos from selected sites for free. The KDL-55XBR8 also has an interactive TV guide which provides updated program listings and schedules.

    Connectivity Options
You won’t be disappointed by the connectivity options offered by both models, particularly the Sony Bravia KDL-55XBR8, which has four HDMI inputs, a PC input and a USB slot along with various video inputs and both digital and analog video outputs. The Samsung LN55A950 also has four HDMI inputs and a PC input, as well as a headphone jack, while both have a DLNA certified network link which allows you to make them a part of your existing home network so you can access content from your other computers.

    Power-Saving Options
The Samsung LN55A950 and the Sony KDL-55XBR8 are both highly energy-efficient, not just because they are LCD televisions but because of their LED backlighting. In addition, they have other power-saving options which exceed Energy Star compliance. For example, the LN55A950 has three power-saving modes and a default picture mode with a low light output while the KDL-55XBR8 has a Home Option which offers lower light output and an option to limit the peak brightness.

    Cost
With all their features and qualities, there is no doubt why the Samsung LN55A950 and the Sony KDL-55XBR8 are at the top of the heap. Indeed, although the KDL-55XBR8 has a slight edge in terms of picture quality and connectivity, the LN55A950 is very impressive, too, which is why it is just as expensive as the former. This means you’ll be left with a large hole in your savings, if you still have some left, that is. Then again, the viewing experience you get in return for many years to come should be worth it.

The Incredible Samsung LED HDTV Models

If you’re considering a television purchase, do yourself a favor and have a look at some of the many Samsung LED HDTV models currently available.

Samsung, obviously, isn’t the only manufacturer of LED HDTVs, but Samsung is leading the pack with some truly awesome products. Regardless if you’re looking for an LED DLP HDTV (projection) or an LED LCD HDTV, Samsung has many models available that will satisfy your needs.

Although there have been a few problems with LCD and DLP technology in the past (lower contrast ratios, the ‘rainbow effect’, ‘motion blur’), Samsung has addressed these, and now they’re producing HDTVs that are second to none. Not only are the Samsung LED HDTV models on the cutting edge of technology, the prices are almost too good to be true. For just a fraction of what many people paid for a high-end plasma set just a few short years ago, you can now own a Samsung LED HDTV that has (at least) an equivalent image reproduction, but is also a product that is cheaper to operate, lasts longer, and has many more features – such as incorporated Internet access, to name but one.

Obviously, one of the most popular and reputable shopping sites on the Internet is Amazon. If you take a few minutes to look what most people are buying, and the customer reviews of those products, you’ll see that the Samsung LED HDTV models are selling better than most all other similar products combined !! When you start to look at the ratings of these Samsung LED HDTV models, you’ll also see that customer satisfaction is extremely high. If I seem biased towards the Samsung televisions, it’s because I am. They rightfully deserve all of the accolades, and positive consumer reviews that they’re receiving.

Whether you find A Samsung LED DLP HDTV, or a Samsung LED LCD HDTV is better suited to your needs, I know you’ll be confident that you made a smart purchase when you decide to buy a Samsung LED HDTV.

Lastly, not to insult your intelligence, but be sure to evaluate all of the features of the televisions that you’re interested in. Some people think mainly about the size of the screen and little else. As mentioned previously, some Samsung LED HDTV models have advanced Internet features, some are extra slim, and still others, while having Samsung’s stunning audio and video capabilities, aren’t as feature-rich as some of their slightly more costly stable mates.

Regardless of which Samsung LED HDTV you purchase, you’ll have a television that is second to none in terms of quality and performance, and one that will last many years.

Consumer feedback is probably the best way to get an honest impression of the television(s) that you’re interested in. Any Samsung LED HDTV model that you choose will be a quality product, but spending just a few minutes on Amazon, will give you a wealth of information and consumer opinions on any Samsung LED HDTV available.

Generally speaking, if you’re looking for a larger screen (>50-55 inches), you may want to look at the Samsung LED DLP models. For a smaller screen size, you may find that one of the Samsung LED LCD HDTV models may be better suited to your needs.

Vizio HDTVs – America’s Bargain Brand

We, as Americans, are always on the hunt for the latest technology on the very best prices. From that major mindset, a company that was virtually unknown until about 2006 emerged and has become a major player in the high definition world. That company is known as Vizio. Vizio HDTVs are becoming a go to brand when trying to create a more budget friendly HD setup, especially in today’s economic times.

Not to be confused with actual manufacturers like Sony or Samsung, Vizio HDTVs are a compilation of sub-contracted parts creating a lower budget HDTV. This is similar to the no name company Olevia which has a similar market approach to the HD world. Both of these companies are responsible for being a major contributor to the price wars that have since come into play for HDTV sets and have actually managed to take a bite out of the major name brand’s market share so it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Vizio HDTVs began as plasma offerings. It wasn’t until recently, though, that Vizio moved to drop their plasma line and start manufacturing LCD HDTV’s at a more affordable price point. Many have speculated that it’s because of Vizio’s sub-contracted supply chain that this move happened. According to one of their co-founders, though, it’s simply due to LCD’s being brighter and alluring more customers. Even with that, though, Vizio will surely change the market for LCD HDTVs as they have for the plasmas that preceded them. Their sets are being tweaked to offer features many people love but aren’t willing to pay the exuberant premiums that come along with it. One of these features is the LED backlight often found in high end LCD sets.

Vizio doesn’t claim to be an ultra high end premium brand that is out to match the features in LCD sets that can easily fetch $10,000 or more. Instead, they have one principle and they do it well. That principle is to create HDTVs that fit more within a comfortable price point for many Americans. This opens the market up for budget HD enthusiasts who will enjoy the HD experience. For that, Vizio HDTVs should always be taken into consideration when shopping for more barebones HD setups. They can compete with models from other manufacturers well, just don’t expect the latest gadgets and interactivity that you’d find on HD sets commanding five or ten times the price.

Finding a great Vizio HDTV deal is easy when you know where to shop. Flat Panel TV technology is changing all the time. It’s important to be an informed consumer when making a new Vizio HDTV purchase. Getting the latest HDTV technology news and TV deals from Screen Sleuth is a great place to start your research before buying a new television.

The Fast Track for Leds Into Large Area Lcds

What will consumers pay for the improved display features LED backlights bring to LCDs? Are the price premiums enough to pay the added costs? Are the price premiums modest enough to both attract early adopters and quickly build substantial sales in key LCD market sectors?

These are the critical questions answered in this report using a sophisticated analytical approach that relies on a statistical analysis of display market data.

Investment in LED technology has led to continued improvements in LED performance. Yet there is little market analysis that quantifies critical market issues:

-What will consumers pay for improved features?

-How do consumers value packages of features?

-How fast will consumers adopt the new technology?

For LEDs to penetrate large-area LCDs quickly marketeers must target the right applications with performance at the right price points. Both the cost/technical side and the price/marketing side of the equation must be understood.

The time-line for LEDs’ replacement of conventional CCFLs backlights is of critical importance not only to the LED industry, but also to the LCD backlight industry, LCD panel makers and display branders, such as Led display,Led manufacturer,Electronic signs  etc. The LED industry needs to follow a fast track path and command a significant share of backlight market in order to generate an acceptable return on the substantial investment in improving LED performance. For LCD backlight, module and display makers, the timing and magnitude of the roll out is also critical since the companies that can successfully lead the transition to LED backlighting will gain market share and improved competitiveness.

We have developed a methodology to answer the key marketing questions and balance the equation between cost and price. This report uses this methodology to find the fastest possible adoption path for LEDs in large-area LCD displays – the fast track. The methodology is broadly applicable to all display products and markets. We will continue to develop and enhance this methodology.

The study forecasts cost and performance improvements 2007-2011 as well as consumer value for the forecast performance improvements. The study forecasts winning illumination architectures within each market segment and recommends pricing to enable fastest market share penetration. The study addresses questions such as:

What display improvements will consumers pay for? Which of these improvements can LEDs deliver? What level of improvement can each LED architecture deliver at what cost? What is each improved feature worth to consumers? What is the consumer perception of risk? How much faster will market share grow if the feature is priced lower? How much more will the consumer pay for the complete feature package delivered by each LED architecture? Which LED architecture offers the best value to consumers for each market segment? What consumer price premium provides the fastest possible profitable growth? What is the overall fast track for LEDs?

Illumination Architecture Scope. The following illumination architectures are included: Regular CCFL (baseline), Wide colour gamut CCFL, Edge-lit white LEDs, Edge-lit RGB LEDs, Area RGB LEDs.

Market Scope. Overall LCD panel demand, area demand for LED backlights and LED lamp demand for the fast track scenario for: Notebooks, Monitors, TVs.

The above markets are segmented into four notebooks market segments, two monitor market segments and three TV market segments.
